The Board of Directors
Clarinda Community School District
A Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of Clarinda Community School District was held Wednesday, August 12, 2026, beginning at 5:00 PM in the McKinley Boardroom.
1. Call to Order
President Butt called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
2. Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
3. Roll Call
The following Board members were present: President Butt, Vice President Hayes, Boysen, Sunderman, and Wyman.
4. Public Comment
President Butt welcomed all visitors to the meeting.
5. Approval of Agenda
A motion was made by Boysen, seconded by Wyman, to approve the agenda. Motion carried 5-0.
6. Open Hearing on Expending Funds from the District’s Flexibility Account
At 5:02 p.m. President Butt declared the start of the hearing on the proposed expending funds from the district’s flexibility account. Hearing no verbal, and receiving no written objections, President Butt closed the hearing at 5:03 p.m.
7. Open Hearing on the Conveyance of District Parcel No. 083118012500
At 5:04 p.m. President Butt declared the start of the hearing on the proposed conveyance of District Parcel No. 083118012500. Cindy VanFosson expressed concern over giving the property to the city and the voted PPEL article on KMA. Seth Kirchner expressed concern over moving the bus lot and his property tax increases. Larry Auten expressed concern over the lack of information about moving the bus lot and where the athletic field will go. Receiving no written objections, President Butt closed the hearing at 5:08 p.m.

9. Recognition and Reports
9.1 Activities Report
Mrs. Thummel, Lexi Clark, Taylor King, and Kelsey Stephens gave a presentation on their National FCCLA Trip to Washington D.C. Mr. Bales reported summer activities
have wrapped up and fall practices have begun. He will be using the Sports You app to communicate with students and parents. BOUND messages will still go to parents
from him.
9.2 Maintenance Report
Mr. Ridnour reported the completed summer projects included painting, Garfield electrical, Jr/Sr High commons ceiling grid and air conditioning, Garfield HVAC controls,
theater lighting, moving the trophy case display, and Garfield heat pumps. Work in progress projects still include finishing the maintenance building, the parking lot south
of the auditorium, and prepping the elementary playgrounds.
9.3 Finance Report
Mrs. McKinnon is working on the Certified Annual Report, fieldwork for the auditors, open enrollment, and finishing up FY26 expenses and revenues.
9.4 Superintendent Report
Mr. Privia reported the auditorium tower panels should arrive next week. The new teacher training went well. There will be a work session in September for Open Ed to
give updates on the program.
9.5 Board Correspondence
Boysen took two calls concerning the property conveyance and taxes. He discussed the budget and current Legislation decisions.
10. New Business
10.1 Discuss and Consider Approving Resolution Directing Expenditures of the School Flexibility Account
A motion was made by Hayes, seconded by Sunderman, to approve the resolution to transfer excess home school assistance program funds of $169,000 to the school
flexibility fund. Sunderman – Aye; Butt – Aye; Wyman – Aye; Boysen – Aye; Hayes – Aye. Motion carried 5-0.
10.2 Discuss and Consider Approving Resolution on the Conveyance of District Property
A motion was made by Wyman, seconded by Sunderman, to approve the resolution to convey Page County Parcel No. 083118012500 to the city of Clarinda. Hayes – Aye;
Wyman – Aye; Sunderman – Aye; Butt – Aye; Boysen – Aye. Motion carried 5-0.
10.3 Discuss and Consider Approving the Nutrition Sharing Agreement with South Page
A motion was made by Wyman, seconded by Hayes, to approve the nutrition sharing agreement with South Page for the 2026-2027 school year. Motion carried 5-0.
10.4 Discuss and Consider Approving the Other Business Official Sharing Addendum with South Page
A motion was made by Hayes, seconded by Sunderman, to approve the other business official sharing addendum with South Page for the 2026-2027 school year. Motion
carried 5-0.
10.5 Discuss and Consider Approving the Addendum to the Activities Handbook
A motion was made by Wyman, seconded by Hayes, to approve the eighth-grade athletic participation addendum to the activities handbook. Motion carried 5-0.
10.6 Discuss and Consider Approving the Second and Final Reading of Policy Primers Volume 34-4
A motion was made by Boysen, seconded by Wyman, to approve the second and final reading of policy primers volume 34-4. Motion carried 5-0.
10.7 Discuss and Consider Approving the Second and Final Reading of Policy Primers Volume 34-5
A motion was made by Wyman, seconded by Hayes, to approve the second and final reading of policy primers volume 34-5. Motion carried 5-0.
